The 9 Traits Of Successful Entrepreneurs

Do you want to be successful?

Success

While you might not join the ranks of the multi-billionaires right away, there are certain characteristics of these successful entrepreneurs that can take you far in your workplace.
You might have seen a lot of job listings stating companies are looking for ‘entrepreneurial spirit’.
What is entrepreneurial spirit?
While your resume and track record might not look like the major entrepreneurs, this does not mean that you cannot emulate their success at work.
There are many employees and successful entrepreneurs that have a lot of traits in common. These traits are not just for traditional entrepreneurs. It is these employees are the ones that companies are eager to hire. And you can channel this entrepreneurial spirit too.
While ‘entrepreneur’ may conjure up images of a self-employed and solo-preneur, companies find people with entrepreneurial traits very desirable because everyone needs to work as if they are working for themselves, even in a team environment.
There are many success stories from business owners who have adopted this approach.
So whether you want to be hired in your dream job, or become a successful entrepreneur in your own right, if you want to set yourself apart from others, you need to develop these 9 traits that all entrepreneurs have.

1)      Creativity -Regardless of the industry you work in, employers want people who can think outside the box and come up with new ideas. They do not want employees who are going to carry on doing the same thing, but someone who thinks of a better way of doing everything. This is why you need to be creative at work.To do this, you should always think about ways you can improve the workflow, bottom line and overall productivity in your company. When you are creative you are having fun, and that’s key.

2)      Vision – One of the most important traits that successful entrepreneurs have is an ability to keep their eye on the big picture. They have a vision which helps them with strategic planning. Vision will help you see the direction the industry you work in is going. Paula Evans, the successful entrepreneur behind Tierra Alma, has always had a strong vision for her Mordialloc boutique. “Tierra Alma means ‘earth soul’ and it captures what I want customers to experience when they walk in our store. It’s the same vision that led us to set up shop at our bayside location, and it’s the same vision that influenced our choice of labels. Even our customer service philosophy of 100% honesty and kindness is guided by the same principle.”
Vision will also help you identify challenges that your company will face. It also helps you stay focused on long-term goals while coping with the responsibilities of your daily tasks.

3)      Decisiveness – Are you able to make sound decisions when you are under pressure?
If you are an entrepreneur, you will not have any room to procrastinate and this is the same for all employees. You need to be able to take action when you have to.You also need to know how to prioritise tasks and make decisions in a timely manner. A bonus to this is the fact it will help you stay organised. Persistence is key.

4)      Motivation – A hard-working business owner will be motivated to succeed. When you take this mindset to the office and are able to demonstrate your motivation to your employer, you will see the benefits. When you do this, you have to bring enthusiasm for everything in your job.It can be easy to show that you are highly motivated in the office. To start, you should have a positive attitude every day. Employers want to see that you are passionate about your work and a positive attitude helps with this.

5)      Versatility – You need to be able to adapt to any changes in your industry and the workforce. It is possible that you were hired for specific skills, but you might need to shift as time goes by. Versatility allows you to be the person your boss can turn to when there is a problem.

According to Search It Local hiring manager, Jacqueline Payne, versatility is one of the key indicators she looks for. She notes “interviews are the ideal place to introduce challenges to gauge the versatility of your prospect. How do they respond to obstacles? What complementary skills do they have? More than a polished facade or the perfect answers, I look for the ability to adapt on the fly. This is a skill the most successful entrepreneurs possess.”
To show your versatility, you need to be prepared to take on work that is outside of your job description. You also need to be one of the early adopters of any new technology in your industry. Taking the time to keep your skills current is also important.

6)      Collaboration – A good entrepreneur will not only be a good leader, they will also work well with other people. This means you need to be a good team player. When hiring managers look for candidates, 78% of them will focus on strong teamwork. This is because successful entrepreneurs know how to utilize social capital. According to career coach Eiran Trethowan of Open for Life, this means that a good team player should be open to both helping and asking for help. “Admitting you need help is not a weakness. In fact, interdependence builds trust and trust makes way for better collaborations and successful projects. Momentum in business can be achieved by sustained acts of interdependence.”Using skills that entrepreneurs have will help you avoid office politics, adjust to how other people work and meet all your deadlines.

7)      Flexibility – Entrepreneurs will have to adapt to changes and solve any problem as it comes up. A good team player in an office will be able to shift their priorities to help where it is needed. This flexibility will include being receptive to other people’s opinions, needs and ideas while being open-minded when getting feedback.

8)      Persuasiveness – When you are persuasive, you will be a better negotiator which will give you an edge on other employees. It can help you get a better assignment, a promotion or a raise. There are also times when you need to convince a potential client to take certain actions. If you need to convince anyone in the business, you need to be persuasive and able to present your ideas in a coherent and appealing manner.Looking to become a more persuasive person? Here’s your ultimate guide to becoming persuasive.

9)      Risk Tolerance – All employers want their business to grow, but this involves a certain amount of risk. This means that you should not be afraid to take risks when it comes to getting new clients or testing a new product. Of course, you will need to have your boss’ approval before you take any risky steps.

What To Do Next?

When you are the type of candidate businesses are looking for, you assume finding a job will be easy. This is not the case and you need a bit of luck and some hustle. Joining certain websites will help you improve your chances of getting work.

Become a persuasive person.

Being a persuasive person can help you in business and in life. If you want to have people buy your product or service you will have to learn to be more persuasive.

You see – we live in a very cluttered world, advertising coming from every angle, marketing messages bombarding you everyday.

Find your marketing message and become persuasive, you’ll go a long way to succeeding.

1)      Become a people pleaser – It can be challenging to be a people pleaser, especially when you know you’re right. However, in order to become a persuasive person, you need to know when to choose your battles. You must make sacrifices if you want a successful business. Giving in to people is part of creating relationships that help you grow your business. It’s about making people happy, not about being right.

2)      Know your target audience – You have to learn to know your audience. People are different, so you have to adjust your demeanour to meet each individual. Paying attention to your target audience helps you learn when to be zealous, when to be calm, when to be direct, when to be funny, etc… Learning people goes a long way to persuading them, which leads to building your business.

3)      Engage with positive body language – What is positive body language? Any engaging gesture, expression, movement, and vocal tone fall into the positive body language category. One of the best pieces of advice business owners need is to make use of positive body language. A few ways to do this is to make eye contact, learn towards the individual who is talking to you, use an enthusiastic vocal tone, and avoid crossing your arms when engaging others.

4)      Smile a lot – Smiling is contagious and engaging. This is body positive body language that draws people to you. People also tend to mirror body language, so if you’re smiling, they will smile before the end of the conversation. Smiling is a feel-good gesture that lends to your persuasive business mindset.

5)      Connect on a personal level – Persuasive people have learned how to connect with others. When you reach out and make an effort to connect with others, you will be able to negotiate and persuade them most of the time. If you don’t connect, your words will be spoken in vain.

6)      Be genuine – To be genuine is to be sincere and real. Honestly is an essential attitude to have in becoming a persuasive business owner. People steer clear of fake people because they aren’t credible or trustworthy. Persuasiveness has to have the element of honesty in order to be effective.

7)      Avoid being pushy – You can be persuasive, confident, and assertive without being pushy and aggressive. People are turned off by pushy behaviour. They will walk away. On the other hand, people are drawn to confident people. Being aggressive and pushy is negative while being confident and assertive is being positive.

8)      Be clear and succinct – It’s crucial to be clear and succinct when you want to own and operate a successful business. Learn to communicate your concepts clearly, concisely, and quickly in order to make people comprehend what you’re saying. The ability to do this goes along with knowing your audience, or the person you are talking to.

9)      Greet others by name – It’s not difficult to address people by name. When you encounter people you know, or are acquainted with, greet them by name. This makes people feel good and gets their attention. If you have difficulties with remembering names or putting faces with names, use brain exercises to make it easier for you.

10)   Ask valid questions – People want to know you are listening to them. One way to ensure they know you are paying attention to them is to ask a lot of questions. However, make sure to ask valid questions that are relevant to the conversation and not just random questions. Questions that ask for clarification show you are listening. This engages people and creates a relationship of trust.

11)   Don’t be shy – Don’t be bashful about expressing your thoughts and ideas in a positive way. Persuasive people aren’t shy about making their ideas known. Avoid phrases like “It’s possible to…” or “I think…” since they require validation and approval. The goal is to speak with confidence. Remember, you don’t need approval from other for your ideas.

12)   Know when to take a step back – Learn patience when dealing with others. Being too urgent or demanding will turn people off to your point of view. You cannot force people to agree with you right away. If you try to do that, you will be confronted with counter arguments, as you will put people on the defensive.

13)   Acknowledge other points of view – Part of being persuasive is acknowledging that other points of view are valid. This shows others you aren’t stubborn and that you are open-minded. Being stubborn won’t draw people to your side. Use phrases like “I see what you mean.” Or “I understand what you’re saying.” To show you are listening and willing to concede to other ideas. You don’t always have to give in totally, but be willing to understand other opinions.

14)   Make a good first impression – It’s long been known that leaving people with a good first impression will reap rewards in the long run. Did you know that a person will decide whether they like you or not within the first seven seconds after meeting you? Those initial first minutes can make or break your ability to persuade people.

15)   Use visual concepts – Most people are visual. They are more persuaded by visual imagery than simple conversation. If you can tell a good story that brings your ideas to life, you can persuade. If you think you aren’t good at this, you should know this is something you can learn. A good story will stick with a person as well as create a rapport.

Putting the Fun Back into Your Business

Putting the Fun Back into Your Business

Most entrepreneurs who start their own business have a drive and passion for what they are doing and find it a lot of fun. However, over time that drive and passion may dwindle and the business may not be as much fun as it used to be.

Typically, when a business owner loses that passion, so does their staff, and then the entire business begins to suffer. There are many reasons why it is important to get that passion back, and why you should work to put the fun back into your business.

Stress Reduction

In order to be a successful business owner you have to be committed to your business. When work is fun, you are more likely to stay on top of the game, and any staff you may have will enjoy their work, meaning that they will probably stay with you longer and cost you less money in hiring and training.

Hold regular meetings with your staff to find out what they enjoy doing. Ask everyone to write down two or three things they like to do for fun, and then use the lists as guides to incorporate what they enjoy into the workplace.

Activities could include allowing employees to play their favourite music at work, pizza Fridays, organising a team for a local sporting event, having a casual dress day, or even allowing pets at work once or twice a month.

Customer Relations

When you and your employees enjoy working, your business will have a happy, positive atmosphere. This will make customers want to be around more and will help to deepen relationships and trust. Happy customers will also refer you to their friends, families, and peers.

To help deepen customer relations, organise a monthly get together with social activities that have nothing to do with the business. These events should be informal and short, designed to give your employees and customers a chance to see the each other’s human side. This will make business calls and meetings feel less like a chore and more like a conversation with a friend.

Employee Relations

Employee relations are just as important as customer relations are as happy employees are typically more productive, and stay at their jobs longer.

When organizing a fun business event, do not force employees to participate, put in extra hours, or stay late in order to attend. It is much better for morale to cut into productivity occasionally in order to ensure a happy workforce.

Keep the Lines of Communication Open

In order for the owner and employees of a SME to operate as a team, everybody needs to feel comfortable talking about difficult issues.

One way to achieve that is with shared positive humour, as it helps to promote a relaxed and open atmosphere.

These are only a few reasons why you should work to put fun back into your business, and a few suggestions on how to go about it. Use your imagination and enlist employees to help you!

Hope this helps and remember to have fun while you’re making your millions.

Money is Not Evil

Timothy 6:10 “For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil”

This famous passage, taken from the New Testament is one of the most misunderstood quotes of all time. It causes many people to remain stuck in poverty and subconsciously sabotages the success of entrepreneurs and business people all over the world.

Money itself is not evil; it is the love of money which can turn into greed and avarice towards money that is the evil part.

Business exists for 2 core reasons: To provide a service or solution to cater to your customers needs and wants. But let’s not forget… Business is also a vehicle for you to make money, which you can then help yourself and others have a wonderful life.

As an entrepreneur money is simply a tool of leverage that will amplify your existing personality traits and intentions.

Allow me to explain – A “good” business person with more money has the power to do more good, whilst an “evil” business person with more money has the power to do more evil. Money itself has no agenda or emotion. Money is neither good, nor bad.

The misconception that money leads to evil causes many people to choose poverty. They believe that by staying poor they will remain a good person, rather than obtain wealth and become a bad person. This choice is often made in the subconscious mind which has been conditioned by society’s negative connotations towards money.

It’s important for you to acknowledge that you can be a good person and have money. Being poor will not serve you and will not serve others.

So doesn’t it make more sense as a business person, to use business as a vehicle to make more money, so that you can then use it for more good? Sounds simple, but why do we feel guilty when we start to make lots of money and why do we sabotage our own success?

Here are 4 great tips to help you smash this deeply seated belief.

Tip #1. Conduct this thought experiment – Imagine all the good that you could do with $10 million. How many starving mouths could you feed? How many people could be immunised from life threatening diseases? Once you focus on all the good that money can do, you will no longer feel guilty when receiving money.

Tip #2. Become aware of the “tall poppy syndrome” and disconnect from this type of thinking. This is where wealthy people are vilified by others, simply because they have lots of money. Many wealthy people are philanthropists and privately contribute millions of dollars to worthy causes.

Tip #3. Cheer on “team rich” When wealthy people are being harassed by society or the media, observe your own responses and make the conscious choice to support the wealthy. If you find yourself resenting wealthy people, you will sabotage yourself from becoming wealthy as you can not become what you resent.

Tip #4. Surround yourself with like minded positive people, who are willing to support you on your journey. Being an entrepreneur can be lonely and can make you feel isolated, that’s why its so important to have the support of other like minded entrepreneurs.

A Confused Mind…

Here’s a really powerful and abrupt business tip:

A Confused Mind Always Says NO!

If your marketing is confusing to your clients, it’s likely they will say NO to doing business with you.

Billions of dollars are flushed down the toilet every year from DOWNRIGHT BAD and CONFUSING marketing.

Does your marketing:

  • Confuse them with mixed messages?
  • Overwhelm people with way too much information?
  • Give them too many options to choose from?
  • Use industry jargon which makes no sense to your reader?

Become crystal clear with the message in your marketing and always make sure the reader can understand it.

Make it drop dead easy for them to take action on your product or service.

Don’t be afraid if your marketing message polarizes the reader. You don’t want to be all things to all people.

Those who want to do business with you WILL jump on board, and all the rest will go away.

ATTRACT your ideal client and REPEL the time wasters.

Don’t sit on the fence and confuse people. You’re wasting their time and your money.

Unlock That Caged Lion Inside…

I woke up this morning with an overwhelming feeling I had to write this. I don’t know why this happens, I just know I need to write.

This one sung to me and I hope it sings to you.

I’ll start by quoting one of my favourite actors and someone I admired greatly.

Morgan Freeman.
“Insanity is coasting through life in a miserable existence when you have a caged lion locked inside and the key to release it.”

Do you have a caged Lion locked up inside you? just waiting to leap out and change your life forever.

Over the years I have witnessed this many times, it can be extremely frustrating when you know what you want to do, you can see what you need to do and you can see the life you deserve.

Well don’t wait for someone else to give you the key to success, it is inside you right now.

It’s never too late.

Take a moment today and ask yourself, do I really want to carry on as I am or do I want to take control and have the life I deserve.

If the answer is NO! then you owe it to yourself to do something right now.

You maybe feeling down because Cashflow is scarce, your business maybe stuck in a rut and you can’t see the forest for the trees.

I don’t care what it is, just do something to get yourself out of the situation you’re in. Call someone, read a book on personal improvement, do a coarse or a seminar, get a Mentor.

Do something right now, take action towards having a better life.

Over the years I have proven hundreds of times with myself and my clients, that if you Take A Positive Action, A Positive Result Will Come Back To You.

So, imagine that you have the key to unlock the Lion inside you, grab that key and take action to having an amazing and fulfilled life.

I wish you all the success in the world and if I can help please let me.

Business Warrior Mindset

Today I wanted to get straight back on the bike; you see I’ve been speaking to many business owners in my travels and here at home.

One thing they’re all saying is how amazing the start to this year has been. not in a long time has business been so great, I hope this is the case for you.

Great confidence is all around us and I would like to think that this will continue for many years to come, maybe even another 15 year boom time. (always the optimist)

So here we go – Five great tips that can help you throughout the year.

1, The Business Warrior Mindset.
One day your mind feels ready to tackle the world; the next day you are second – guessing all of your decisions. If you are not careful, you can talk your own self into failure.

Once you realize how powerful your mind is, it becomes your strongest weapon in business. Mastering the warrior mindset is an intentional action. Learning how to do so is an everyday challenge.

People who are successful in business or anything in life make success look easy. They too, have had to work on their mind every single day of their lives. So what do they do differently?

2, Living in past failures.
You won’t find successful people looking backwards; if they are, they are studying the mistakes and lessons.

One of the best mantras ever is “don’t belong to the past, you don’t live there anymore.”  Anyone who gives you small business advice will tell you to keep your momentum in the present with a plan for the future.

3, Talking the talk without shoes for the walk.
People who are successful carry a large dream that once began in a thought bubble and grew from their own passion and determination.

There is a huge difference between saying what you would “like to do” as opposed to  what you “will do.”

“The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing.”—Walt Disney

4, The “I made it” complacency trick
Many who reach a milestone, a victory, or an ultimate goal get to experience the complacency trickster.  The ego has been fed, so now the mindset operates on cruise control.

Set a new point for your success, keep charged and open to consistent improvement.

If this is you now, this is the time we should reach  push  through the plateau.

Complacency in any area of your life does not feel good, ever.

5, Humble pie (without a scoop of ego)
A true business warrior mindset emits a certain charge that pulls in all good things in it’s right time.

In other words, if you are blocked with envy, ego, or lack humility, success will only be a surface suit worn falsely.

Gratitude is a business virtue as well. As you are recognized, pass on recognition to others. Your self-worth is not in the money, it is in the diligence and hard work you did to get it. That is pride.

You can have a warrior mindset. You can achieve anything.

As always, I wish you all the success in the world.

All the best

Five Tidbits for you…

Passion is something that motivates people to start a business. If you have a passion, but are struggling to turn that interest into a profitable business, Here are five tidbits of wisdom taken from hundreds of successful entrepreneurs from all over the globe.

  1. Believe

Instead of making excuses as to why you can’t or won’t take the risk, believe you can do it and turn your passion or hobby into a successful business.

Define success – It’s essential that you make the rules when it comes to defining what success means to you.
Your view is the most important definition of success that will guide you.

Your success doesn’t rely upon your personal worth – No matter what your education or skill level, you are able to do anything in life that you want to do. You are a beautiful, shining star, and that fact won’t change.

Build relationships with inspiring and supportive people – The people you surround yourself with can either lift you up or drag you down. Fill your life with people who support you and inspire you every day.

2. Know

Whether you are thinking of becoming an entrepreneur or you are already a successful business person, you should take the time to do these exercises.

  • List your strengths – Make a list of your strengths. Don’t just include the ones you see and know, but add those strengths others see in you.
  • List your values – What are your personal values? Knowing and living your own values helps you develop into a happy, fulfilled person.
  • List your interests – Making a list of what interests you and what you feel passionate about. Seeing it on paper helps keep you focused.

These elements will help you discover what you should pursue.

  1. Build

Building the life you want starts with a solid framework. Here are some small business advice  tips to help you build a solid framework.

  • Write a personal mission statement
  • Write a personal vision statement
  • Routinely review your actions and attitude to ensure you are aligned with your mission and vision
  • Become a habitual planner and write everything on your calendar in order to make the most of your time
  1. DoBe a doer. Enjoy your journey instead of focusing on the destination. Have the attitude that even if money wasn’t important, you would still be doing exactly what you’re doing because you truly love doing it.

Successful business owners love going to work every day because they never know what interesting challenges they will face and how many interesting people they will meet.

  1. Share

You must share the ideas and things you love. This concept is seen every day on social networks when people share pictures of their kids, a vacation, and the like.

In this case, you will share with other like-minded entrepreneurs in your community. You will be around people, just like you who love what they do.

You never know when you will get to work with someone who helps boost your efforts while you help them boost theirs.
